Amity Dewey began her art career by watching her father create works around their home in Floyd, VA. His sculptures, paintings and sketches expressed themes of nature; people, faces and expressions; and the surreal. Amity’s earliest works consist of glorious trees and calming landscapes. As her technique became more refined, so did her subjects. She began painting portraits with deep expression, human forms became tree trunks and branches. Live painting at shows has given Amity a new way to bring her art to the world. She’s been seen at shows all over Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina combining art with great music. In March 2009, Amity befriended the Kings of Belmont from Charlottesville, VA. She designed the layout and did the artwork on their current CD. Though life as a Water Resource Engineer keeps her busy these days, she continues to create new worlds of fascinating color and subjects.
